Description
Context: Enterprise and Business Architects must understand the purpose and scope of the enterprise for which an architecture description is required. Construction of a Business Model is a good way to begin to satisfy this requirement.
Problem: The problem is to determine what set of concepts should be identified to accurately document a Business Model.
Trade-offs, Design Constraints (Forces): Enterprises are complex places with many features. The challenge is to identify a small cohesive set of simple, relevant and intuitive features that help define the purpose and scope of the enterprise.
Solution Structure: The BMC is a good basis on which to structure a Business Model. In this pattern, there are 7 generic concept areas taken from the BMC with ArchiMate Relationships noted between some of them. A Stakeholder role has been added to represent the enterprise in the sense of its ownership.
Solution Dynamics: R$ identifies revenue flows from CS to the owners as compensation for VP, the value offered to Customers. These flows sustain the enterprise. C$ identifies cost flows from the use of KP and KR, which are used to execute, or support the execution of, the KA that deliver the VP.
