Archimate Principles
One of ArchiMate's central principles is to keep the number of elements down. The goal is that it remains simple and manageable.
I want to offer two instead.
- ArchiMate should be easy to learn. The rationale is that more people would use it if it were easy to learn. The implication may be that there are more elements, but it would be more intuitive if they were organised according to meaningful patterns.
- Archimate should be enterprise centric, not IT-centric. The rationale is that it is now used beyond IT and equipment, infrastructure, and other services exist in these areas that we are bing called upon to describe in the models. This is consistent with the growing adoption of the understanding that an enterprise is a socio-cultural—techno-economic system that operates within a bidirectional relationship with its environment, which is a key component and includes other systems and systems of systems.
