Capability Definition
The current ArchiMate definition states that “A capability represents an ability that an active structure element, such as an organization, person, or system, possesses.” It then goes on to say “Capabilities are typically aimed at achieving some goal or delivering value by realizing an outcome. Capabilities are themselves realized by core elements. To denote that a set of core elements together realizes a capability, grouping can be used.” I would recommend dropping the phase “.. or delivering value by realizing an outcome”. A capability provides the value to act. The value (outcome) through a service that has externally observable behaviour and that we care about because, and solely because, of its value.
